CLORAL

The second installment in an epic series of adventures

Fourteen-year-old Bobby Pendragon is not like other boys his age. His uncle Press is a Traveler, and, as Bobby has learned, that means Uncle Press is responsible, through his journeys, for solving interdimensional conflict wherever he encounters it. His mission is nothing less than to save the universe from ultimate evil. And he's taking Bobby along for the ride.

Fresh from his first adventure on Denduron, Bobby finds himself in the territory of Cloral, a vast world that is entirely covered by water. Cloral is nearing a disaster of huge proportions. Reading the journals Bobby sends home, his friends learn that the desperate citizens of the endangered floating cities are on the brink of war. Can Bobby -- suburban basketball star and all-around nice guy -- help rid the area of marauders, and locate the legendary lost land of Faar, which may hold the key to Cloral's survival?

4A 4th Grade Student ReviewMar 04, 2010
Wow! MacHale has done it again. After writing the first book in the series, and claiming he will make more, he throws another suprise. After reading book #1,The Merchant of Death, I knew this series was DEFINETLY a great one. I gave this book four stars because it is now Bobby Pendragon's second territory he has to stop from the total destruction of the evil man... Saint Dane. Now, Bobby doesn't have a choice. He has to be a Traveler. This time, instead of the rocky mountains of Denduron, Bobby's first territory, it's now the warm waters of Cloral.
I'm assuming you've read book 1, or this book won't make sense. So sit back, and enjoy MacHale's great work! I sure did.-Snowdrift

5A Superior SequelFeb 02, 2010
After reading the Merchant of Death, I quickly grabbed up a copy of the Lost City of Faar. I think that while the first was undoubtedly more original, the Lost City of Faar is a far superior sequel. The story is just as epic (if not more so) than the Merchant of Death. WARNING SPOILERS: After their triumph over the dastardly villain Saint Dane on Denduron, Bobby Pendragon and Uncle Press travel through the flume to the territory of Cloral. Cloral is a world that quite literally is underwater. People live on giant barges called habitats and everything is in some way made with water. It is here that Bobby and Uncle Press find Spader the "traveler" (person who can use the flume) from Cloral. Shortly after Bobby's arrival, two habitats crash into each other, because the crew of one is poisoned by a fertilizer that has been distributed all over Cloral. The only place where a cure might be found is on the Atlantis like city of Faar. Bobby races to get to Faar with Spader and Press, all the while tailed by Saint Dane. Bobby,as before, recounts all this in journals and sends it to his friends Mark and Courtney. Meanwhile, on our territory (Second Earth) Bobby's journals from Denduron are stolen from Mark by the bully Andy Mitchell and Mark has to try to get them back. Like I said before, not quite original (the story does have a vaguely 20,000 Leagues feel to it) but still far superior to the Merchant of Death, mostly because of Machale's wonderful description of the ways and life of Cloral. Never before have I had a book as transporting as this one. It's well worth a read!!!!

5Good reading for young adultsDec 03, 2009
Purchased for grandsons. Read first and found ok so let grandsons read. Good for ages 10 and 12. A little too much magic, but ok.

5EPIC!!! Better than Eragon, Harry Potter, Maximum Ride, And ties Cirque Du Freak for 1st place!Jul 08, 2009
Not done with the book, just page 66. But I love this book already and it beats Book 1 (The Merchant of Death) The globe thingys they put on their heads, the spaders, the action. It beats anything you'll ever read. Ever!

5Another great read!Jun 05, 2009
This book is a rip roaring ride if you ask me. The characterizations are great and the flow is wonderful for me. I think the people who don't like this series are too hard on it, not to mention the confusion of seeing someone say they loved the book, but they only gave it one star. What kind of sense does that make?
